Privacy

bubblechat collects as little as it can. This page says what, why, and for how long.

What we collect

• Your account, if you run a room: your email, a salted hash of your password (never the password), your rooms, your payout details and a record of what you have earned and been paid. We use these to run your account and pay you.
• A sign-in cookie, only for people with an account. It keeps you logged in for 30 days and is not used for tracking.
• Your email, if you join the waiting list. We use it to tell you when bubblechat opens, and for nothing else.
• Your message, name and picture, if you send a message. They are public: everyone who opens the chat can see them. We also keep the time, the amount, and the payment reference so we can take payment, release a hold, or refund.
• Visit counts. To show "here now" and "visitors in 24 hours", the chat sends a short signal while a page is open. We turn your address and browser into a scrambled code with a secret key, so the address itself is never stored and the code cannot be turned back into it. These codes are deleted after 48 hours. We keep only a daily total of visitors per room, and a count of how many page views showed each message, which room owners see. Visitors do not get cookies.

What stays in your browser

The chat remembers your name, your picture, and whether you minimized it, in your browser's own storage. It never leaves your device except when you send a message.

Payments

Card details go straight to Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe also asks for your email at checkout and keeps it under its own privacy policy.

Who handles the data

The site and chat run on Cloudflare. Payments run on Stripe. Account emails may be sent through an email provider. We do not sell data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

• Messages stay for as long as the room exists, or until you ask us to remove yours.
• Waiting-list emails are deleted shortly after we write to you.
• Visit codes are deleted after 48 hours; daily totals stay.
• Accounts and earnings records are kept while the account is open, and for as long as the law requires for payments.
